The Perfect Beer Glass.

Libbey #1632 HT

It's a little bigger than a pint glass. It holds 18 ounces, a bit more than a pint, which holds 16 ounces. The glasses themselves weigh about 660-670 grams, or 1 pound 7 and 3/8 ounces (like a pound and a half). Nice and hefty! I found my first set of these glasses at a dollar store at the Dollar Tree in the Mall Of America around the time when my good friend Russ was getting married.

UPDATE [ Mar 7, 2002 8:47pm ] : So I went out to dinner with my beautiful wife Jen to a place called T.H.A.I. in Shirlington. What we had doesn't matter -- I found another, at least acceptable, perfect glass. However, I'm not sure of the dimensions, and I'm not sure if it is in the online catalog. I'll look into it. The waitress said they got the glasses from some supply joint called "Apple" but I think I just didn't understand what she said. Then I embarassed the heck out of myself (sort of) when I stopped this nicely dressed asian man and asked him where they get their glasses. He said he didn't own the place. Oops. I'm a dolt. Here are the possibilities:

UPDATE [ Jan 15, 2002 12:53pm ] : Libbey Glass informed me today that the model featured here, #1632 HT, is not being produced anymore, which is probably why I found it in a dollar store. However, a 20oz version #1637 is similar to this one, but much lighter (about a pound per glass, rather than the hefty pound and a half). I haven't tested it out yet, and although it may not be the pefect glass, I'm hoping it will be close.
